Downwind

Driving some blue highway south of Lexington, Kentucky

the fragrance hit me blindside, stopped the car to have a pull

soothed me like a wavebreak, Lord I smiled just like a baby

I closed my eyes and drifted and I filled my lungs up full

The air was ripe with citrus when the wind died down to nothing

a wisp of cotton candy or the roses by the bay

and I wonder where you’re headed now and whether you can feel it too

are the clouds as brilliant there or is it night or day

All in all, all in all

all and all is gonna be all right

all in all, all in all

everything is gonna be all right, all right

Relaxing on the van rack with the real fine smoke and a joke now

halfway up and halfway down, the hill, the vibe, our lives

the lightning finds the target and the rain streak up my windshield

I laugh to feel it cleansing me, I can’t believe my eyes

If you were traveling with me now you’d do what I am doing

you’d stand off by yourself and take a good breath of the air

but even though you’re gone now, we still will carry on now

alive to move along now here and there and everywhere

All in all, all in all

all and all is gonna be all right

all in all, all in all

everything is gonna be all right, all right

Pulling in and winding down in Columbia, Missouri

shadows long behind me and a wind is at my back

the evening air embraces me, it coats me like your lover’s touch

it’s you and cotton candy till my memory fades to black

All in all, all in all

all and all is gonna be all right

all in all, all in all

everything is gonna be all right, all right

oo it’s gonna be all right now
