Requiem

Picking up pieces and pictures of time spent together

moments engraved in feelings and walls and frozen in time

images sculpted by lonely days and battered by weather

motions of love drifting by again in a day-glow pantomime

eyes half open, voices still

the morning sun is rising

got to learn

to save what I need, leave the rest for the best

walk away from the debris

release the fear and watch it as it rises,

flies away to the horizon

some return

all the four winds have you now

and still I see your shadow

looking one last time at me

do we know love is love

and do we walk away from being lovers

do we know time is time

and will time heal the pain of walking away

do we know near can be far

oh and could we hope that far be near

no regret and no tears for not being all we wanted to

for each other

you smile and leave, you don't look back

and so alone I face the light of day

someday you may return to find the door still here

and ever open wide for you

to be my lover

or discover that a wind had blown it closed for good

while we were away

let it pass and let it die

past the time to wonder why

let it go and let it fly

feels so hard to say goodbye
